Copper Ridge Deep and Shallow Utilities

Phase I, Whitehorse, Yukon, 2003:

The scope of work for Norcope included installation of deep and shallow utilities. This included earthworks in excavation and filling, preparation of sub-grade, installation of manholes, catch basins, sanitary sewer and water system, service connection of sewer and water system, electrical works, etc. The project cost was $1.5 million CAD. There were a total of 125 lots under this project, and Norcope completed all these services within 4 months.

Copper Ridge Project Phase II

Whitehorse, Yukon, 2004

Again, our part of the project covered the installation of deep and shallow utilities. We were responsible for the earthworks in excavation and filling, preparation of sub-grade, installation of manholes, catch basins, sanitary sewer and water system, service connection of sewer and water system, and the electrical works. The project cost was $2.5 million CAD.

This was the largest deep and shallow utility jobs to be covered in a single contract tendered and constructed in Whitehorse. Overall, service utilities for 200 lots were completed within 5 months.

Viceroy Gold Mining Project

Dawson, Yukon, 2004

Reclamation and decommissioning had been carried out by Norcope. The project scope includes dismantling and hauling the entire mine site, excavation and carrying a huge volume of earthworks, reclamation of settling ponds, and handling hazardous materials. The project cost was $2.00 million CAD.

The dismantling of 3-story steel structure buildings was an incredibly tricky project and came with a lot of risk. All of the dismantled materials had to be hauled from Brewery Creek to Mexico, USA and dumped. Norcope finished this project within 4 months – one month ahead of schedule without any accidents or injuries.

2nd Avenue Project

Whitehorse, Yukon, 2005

Norcope installed deep and shallow utilities for this project. The project scope included traffic control, trenching and backfilling, preparation of the sub-grade, installation of manholes, catch basins, the sanitary sewer and water system with the service connections, and the electrical work. The project cost was $1.5 million CAD, and Norcope completed this job within 4 months.

1st Avenue Project

Whitehorse, Yukon, 2006

Deep and shallow utilities were installed by Norcope. The project scope included traffic control, trenching and backfilling, installation of water mains, sewer mains and storm sewers with their service connections, adjustment of appurtenances, preparation of sub-grade, granular sub-base, removal and construction of curb, gutter and sidewalk, laying and removal of hot mix asphalt, installation of project signs, electrical works etc. The project cost was $2.5 million CAD.

Crossing water and sewer mains under high voltage electric and also existing rail line, and working with a high water table, were the critical works for this project, Norcope completed the job in 3.75 months without any accidents and injuries.

White River First Nation Project

White River, Yukon, 2007

Water system improvements were the main focus of this project. The project scope included earthwork in excavation and filling, installation of water mains with service connections, fixing chain link fencing, construction of a pump house including all architectural, structural, mechanical and electric components, rock sump and related works, demolition and decommissioning including wells, well houses, utilities and the water distribution system etc. The project cost was $2.75 million CAD.

There were a total of 30 buildings under system #1 and 2. Norcope completed this project within 6 months.

Whitehorse International Airport Project

Phase I, Whitehorse, Yukon, 2007

The vehicle parking lot and access construction was the responsibility of Norcope. The project scope included stripping, common excavation, subgrade and granular source development, preparation of granular sub-base and base course, installation of manholes, catch basins, storm sewer and sub-drains, construction of concrete barrier curbing, gutter and sidewalk, hot mix asphalt pavement and asphalt overlay, electrical works and landscaping. The project cost was $1.5 million CAD, finished within 4 months.

The trickiest part of this project was not interrupting traffic flow from the airport terminal building to the existing parking lot during construction. Norcope overcame this by stage construction, with temporary fencing.

Whitehorse International Airport Project

Phase II, Whitehorse, Yukon, 2008

The project cost was $1.5 million CAD, finished within 4 months.

Again, interrupting traffic flow from the airport terminal building to existing parking lot during construction was a major concern, and Norcope overcame this by stage construction with temporary fencing.

Mountain Air Estates Project

Whitehorse, Yukon, 2008

Surface works and deep and shallow utilities were Norcope's job here. The project scope included clearing and grubbing, earthworks, preparation of the building pad, granular sub-base and base course, installation of manholes, sanitary sewer and water system with service connections, hot mix asphalt pavement, water flow-meter with the chamber, and electrical works. The project cost was $1.5 million CAD.

Parallel work with another contractor in a confined working space made progress a challenge, but Norcope completed this project on time within 5 months.

Whitehorse ATB Expansion Project

Whitehorse, Yukon, 2008

For this air terminal building, Norcope's project scope included removal and installation of sewerage and sanitary pipes, removal and replacement of manholes, removal of asphalt and concrete paving, removal of existing stairs and fence, installation of construction fence and concrete roadside barrier, common excavation, preparation of granular subbase and base course, and hot mix asphalt pavement.. The project cost was $1 million CAD, and we completed this project within 3 months.

The most critical parts of this project were installing 222 meters of chain link fence on the aircraft side of the terminal, and installation of oversized 3000 mm diameter manholes.

McIntyre Creek Removal of Debris and Waste Project

Whitehorse, Yukon, 2008/2009

Here, our scope was surface works and shallow utilities. This included site works, common excavation, preparation of sub-grade, granular sub-base and base course, construction of concrete curb and gutter, tack coat, hot mix asphalt pavement, and electric works.

The project cost was $850,000, completed within 3 months – one month ahead of schedule.

Yukon Correction Infrastructure Project
Whitehorse, Yukon, 2009

Norcope covered the following parts of this job: Preload removal, bulk excavation and backfilling, subgrade preparation, and the installation of service lines, and water, storm and sewer mains including manholes, rock pit and macerator.

The project cost was $1.50 million, completed within 4 months.

Norcope was in charge of preparation of subgrade, placement of subbase, base course, concrete curb, gutter, sidewalk and hot mix asphalt surfacing.

Riverdale Affordable Family Housing Complex

This project was clearing and grubbing, supply and Installation of CSP culvert, supply and Installation of sanitary and water mains complete with service lines.
